Our First Day at The Villages

Well, here we are again, back at The Villages this summer. We came here last year for several weeks, had a wonderful time and met so many great people. This is where we met Richard (Mo) and Jeanne Movsessian. Most of you know him as "Coach Mo". We're looking forward to seeing them again this year. We've been invited for a private showing of his new DVD..........his 21 pickleball clinics.......soon to be on the market. We know without a doubt that it will be great. We hope to hook up with the newest USAPA Ambassador here in The Villages, Tom Gardner, and with Ambassador Al Rosetti, and his Geezers and Gals at the Bacall Rec Center. And of course, with 'Greenie", our USAPA Regional Ambassador, once he returns from Michigan.

On Wednesday, July 1st, we said goodbye to Linda Bass and the boys. (Don had already left for work) and hit the road. It rained pretty hard on the way. The rain at home has been hot an heavy for the past several days, so we pretty much expected bad weather. But it stopped and the sun was out when we arrived. Our first stop was at the Sales Office at Sumter Landing to pick up our temporary resident passes. Then we headed for the Village of El Santiago where we would be staying.

Here's our little Villa at 2129 Escobar Ave.in the Village of El Santiago. Everything's unpacked. That's Rich hiding behind the golf cart in the garage. This is our home for the next few month's at the Vera Cruz Villas.
If you've ever been in The Villages, it takes a little bit to get your bearings and find your way around. Each day as we head back to our Villa.....we look for this landmark.....The American Flag, waving high in our neighbor's yard!
Inside, it's very cozy. This is a view of the fully furnished kitchen. Very nicely decorated. This is a two bedroom Villa. The master bedroom has a queen bed, a huge walk in closet, and small master bath with a walk in shower. The guest bedroom has a double bed, lots of storage and also is very nicely decorated. Actually there is this small banjo hanging on the wall, that Rich keeps trying to play.....

This is the living/family room, complete with a 32" flat screen TV. The sofa also pulls out to a double(?) bed. Not sure we didn't pull it out!! The villa also has internet access via Comcast. We had a little problem getting hooked up when we arrived. We 'assumed' that it was "wireless" internet access. But we soon found out that we needed to actually hook up to the modem. We were able to connect for about 1/2 hour and then lost the connection.. We called comcast, and because the phone is also with Comcast, we got the internet re-set, but not without losing our phone connection. This happenned two more times...........when finally they decided to sen out a technician. Would you believe that sometime betwen or initial plugging in and our last call to Comcast that the plug from the router to the power strip had just come unplugged? Yes, that's all it was. The technician was there about 10 minutes at the most...............And Voila !!!! Here we are updating our Blog! This morning we woke early and at about 6:55 am. we headed for the pickleball courts. Here's Rich in our Golf Cart. This is provided for our use with the rental of the Villa. Actually when we arrived we had a different one........That one ran really really rough, and was very very loud. The owner sent over the property manager last night to change out the one we had for this one.

This is an example of what we see on the way to the courts. It is not unusual to see the golf carts out early. Here are a couple of them making there way along one of the many many golf course.

I think this guy just pulled off the golf cart path to take in the beauty of the pond. This is along Enrique Ave. on the way to the El Santiago Rec Center.

And here are the courts at El Santiago. It was a really friendly and welcoming crowd there this morning. Probably about 20 of us out there today. The sun was hot and we played hard.....and called it a day about 10:45 when we headed back to the villa. We have not played that hard in a while................After a short nap.........we made up our grocery list and headed out to stock up for the week.
Tomorrow morning we are going to head over to La Hacienda Rec Center...........for a little morning pickleball................Be back later!!!1
