Pickleball at Torrey Oaks - Happy Hour at Peace River

Well, work has begun on the Pickelball Courts at Peace River. The fence has already been moved in to minimize the dirt/sandy area behind the courts. Most people can reach the balls without walking in the sand. (those of us only 5" or less - with short arms - still might have a problem!!). Yesterday the courts were closed for cleaning and power washing. Today the primer went down. Tomorrow - the paint, Thursday. Rich and I and Buddy = and whoever else may want to help will paint the new lines.

Since the courts were closed, Buddy made a call to Torrey Oaks which is located just a couple miles north on US 17, to see if we could use their courts for a few days. We met at 8:00 this morning and car pooled to Torrey Oakes. There were ten of us!!

Here's some of the group arriving at Torrey Oaks -Rich and I and Buddy, Travis and Barb were there. Barb had managed to extend her stay for a few days at Peace River because she was having so much fun playing with the group. Then they closed the courts!! But she joined us this morning. Yesterday, Dick and Dot arrived. Dot doesn't play but Dick joined us. Yesterday Keith and Marie and Harry and Karen arrived, so they too showed up to play.

Enjoy these pictures of the group playing. I usually don't manage to get too many action shots - so I though these came out pretty good. We played for about 2 and 1/2 hours before heading back to Peace River.
Now, last night was a late night for me; I stayed up to watch Philadelphia beat the Yankees! YES!!!! I was up this morning at 5:30 and headed out for my walk around the park for just over an hour before we played pickleball. So while Rich enjoy this perfect weather day, I napped until almost three o'clock. Happy Hour at Buddy and Brenda's at 4:00pm.

Here's Buddy and Brenda - This host and hostesss for the evening! Great Job you two!

Harry and Keith smiling for the camera. Keith and Marie shared their recipe for home made Kaluha - I definately want that recipe!!

Marie and Karen smile for the camera. We shared some great stories of how we all started RV'ing. Keith and Marie and Harry and Karen are from the Reading, PA area - so we will definately look them up when we visit TT in Hershey this summer.

Here's Dick and Dot. Dick is in his seventy's (I know he still looks 50!!) but enjoys his time on the pickleball courts. He and Dot are working at TT in Peace River this winter so we look forward to many many more of these Happy Hours together.
And here is one of the newest pickleball players that we've met. Barb is from the St. Clair Michigan area, but spends winters at Strawberry Ridge here in Florida. She travels the country in her Class C with her faithful companion. Her dog is getting very old - and starting to have some medical problems. She's great company for Barbara - so we hope the little one's health holds on for a while. Barb has also played with our MeadowPointe group at home while staying here in Florida.
Karen again - with Marie. Marie share a great story about Handicapped Parking and her driving experiences ! We'll leave it at that!
Here's the group enjoying the food!!! Now Harry - Are you going to fill all three of those Plates?
No, he didn't - he actually shared them with the ladies in the group. The food, the company and the conversation was great. A perfect way to end the day. Posted by Picasa

  1. Thank you to everyone helping to refurbish the pickleball courts in Peace River. It is long over due. You guys look like you are starting your winter social calendar a little earlier than usual. Nice to see all the smiling faces. We are finally in California and have found sunshine and wonderful coastal scenery. Picking up Chris in Sacramento on Nov 10th. Look forward to seeing you guys in February.

  2. Well, it should be better than before. They did not want to spend a lot of money, but were going to Stain the concrete - which is the best process, since paint will peel at some point. Unfortunately, since the lines could not be removed, the only color stain that would cover them was an Orange. So we elected to go with the Gold and put down bright blue lines. Then she went and bought primer and PAINT!!! and spent twice as much money. Had we known she was getting PAINT! we definately would not have painted it ORANGE! OH Well - At least they are using Tread Tex which will keep the court from being slippery which for safety is the most important. The decisions made to date were made by a group of us. A few people who were not included in the decision making process are already complaining - before it's even done. Oh well - guess you can't please every one.
